The family first began trading woolen fabrics in the early 1800s. In April 1924, Pietro Loro Piana established the current company in Corso Rolandi, Quarona, and this remains home to the group headquarters. In the mid-1940s, Franco Loro Piana began exporting fine fabrics into international markets. Today that work is continued by his sons, Sergio and Pier Luigi Loro Piana. 

Under their leadership, Loro Piana has become renowned as the world's foremost cashmere manufacturer and the largest single buyer of the finest wools. The company is celebrated across the globe for its commitment to quality and innovation in textiles, and for uncompromising standards in materials, design and craftsmanship. 

The group has also been structured into two divisions. The Fabrics Division has expanded to encompass fabrics, yarns, and interiors, while the Luxury Goods Division uses Loro Piana fabrics and yarns to produce exclusive luxury wear for women, men and children, as well as leather goods, accessories, and gifts. 

While the company continues to develop, the fundamental approach never changes. Loro Piana travels the world, seeking out nature's finest fibers, and developing different processes to transform them into exclusive new fabrics. The company's Italian craftsmen and women then use these fabrics to create products of supreme quality.
